You may be surprised to hear that Mallorca is a hiker’s paradise. I like to stay away from crowds when I travel, and if you do too, keep reading on. In this article I will tell you all about those unique things that will make your holiday to Mallorca so much more special. I never imagined I would have Cala Pi, or Cala Mondrago, which are very popular in summer, all to myself! And what a feeling that was! I also took a dip in the sea in November, and even though the water was chilly, it still wasn’t as cold as the English Channel is during the summer. The weather was never bad enough to make me cancel my plans and I also got to experience all those gorgeous beaches that Mallorca is so famous for, without any other people around. I managed to find quite a few non-touristy things to do in Mallorca, especially as I travelled there off season, which I highly recommend that you do too. And let me tell you, spending your holiday in Mallorca will be a treat if you love nature, good food, and unique experiences. And oh, what amazing things I found! My first trip was so great that I returned and immersed myself deeper into everything the island has to offer. As I am not really into clubbing or drinking until the early hours of the morning, I searched for other things to do in Mallorca, mostly culture and nature related. Another great place to visit with kids is the Safari Zoo at Cala Millor where you can see lions, tigers, monkeys and more. Before my first trip to Mallorca, I didn’t know much about the island, and I associate it with a party destination. While you’re in the area, pay a visit to the equally impressive Cuevas dels Hams caves found here.
These enormous caves full of stalactites are so large that they feature a vast underground lake which visitors can cross on a boat. The fascinating natural phenomenon of the Cuevas del Drach, the underground caves at Porto Cristo, are well worth a visit. A great way to explore the area a little better, rent a bike from one of the various cycle hire shops and go for a ride, or do the 45-minute walk from Sa Coma up to the ancient watchtower of Castell de n'Amer. Why not try a glass-bottomed, or sunset, boat trip, or get a taste for scuba diving at one of the local diving schools. There are all the usual water sports and beach facilities on offer to keep you entertained. Sa Coma has a lovely, wide strip of sandy beach as well as a long pedestrianised promenade, making it popular with families.
